There's a technique for salmon we call hovering. It's been a well kept secret for quite a few years up here in the Pacific Northwest, but it's time to let the proverbial cat out of the bag. The fish targeted are usually in deep holes, normally suspended and non-aggressive. They have a tendency to follow the bait and nip at it. The bite is almost indistinguishable, but that's where the "hover rod" comes in. First of all, it's the first rod designed especially for this special tehnique. It's GLX and features the new, innovative RECOIL guide system making it extremely light and sensitive. At 7'4", it's shorter and much lighter than most salmon rods, but you don't have to cast it with this technique, you just drop the bait down to the right depth and drift through the hole. A light, responsive tip telegraphs even the lightest tap, but when you set the hook it locks up instantly with power that will surprise even the most demanding salmon angler. This is important because you are usually sitting down, holding the rod as steady as possible so you can really watch the tip and concentrate on the bite. If the rod's too soft, you can't set the hook properly, if it's too stiff, you can't detect the bite. The new GLX Hover rod is the perfect combination of a light sensitive tip and a strong powerful butt-section. When the bite gets light and the fish get finicky, it can be one of the most intense fishing experiences you'll ever have. If you know the fish are there, this rod can rat them out.
