Fishing Report from Tillamook, Oregon
December 28, 2009 Fishing report brought to you courtesy of Rob Russell: Conditions were perfect over the Christmas weekend, the water was gorgeous, and lots of eager winter steelheaders came out to try their luck. The lower Wilson and Kilchis provided some slow fishing, with a handful of hookups spread across many boats. Bank anglers in the upper reaches did a bit better. Wild silvers were still present in both rivers, and seemed to outnumber winter chinook. We saw a lot of winter steelhead around, but they were spooky and tough to get. Based on the extremely low number of chinook spawning in the Kilchis and Wilson, 2009 appreared to bring the lowest chinook return I have ever seen in Tillamook. Thankfully, the winter steelhead run is off to a pretty good start. Here's Tom with a hard-fighting hatchery hen that took a little black jig.
