Fishing
Report from Tillamook, Oregon
|
June 23, 2009 Fishing report brought to you courtesy of Rob Russell: Summer steelhead are here, with ocean-fresh fish coming in daily. These wary fish are easy to spot as they move up the river, glowing blue against the brown river bottom. Spring chinook continue to move in as well. For trout anglers, the yellow sally hatch is coming off every evening, and there are plenty of fine cutthroat spread throughout the rivers. The Wilson River offers great summer fishing from the slow pools of the lower river to the riffles and rapids of the upper and middle sections. Casting spinners in the mornings and evenings, moving quickly and covering water, is the best way to catch steelhead and salmon this time of year. Fly anglers can also enjoy good success skating muddler minnows through riffles and tailouts. Here is Mitch and his dad, Tim admiring a perfect Fathers Day steelhead. Way to go Mitch! Good fishing to all, Marilyn
